Repromilitaria Belltop shakos are crafted to a high standard and follow the correct dimensions of the ornate British shako of the Regency period. There are 2 patterns to this design the first starting in 1816 through to 1828. It can be identified by a different style of shako plate than its later variety and often had a gold or silver lace to the top and bottom. The shako plume also changed over the period of the Belltop era. In the first pattern plumes reached an inordinate 12 inches in height. The first pattern shako also sported a small rear peak.
The second pattern shako introduced in 1829 is the one Repromilitaria has produced and its dimensions include a sunken leather top of 11 inches turned over the sides to a depth of 1 inch. There is a leather band stitched to the bottom of the shako. The peak extends 2 inches at its centre. The brass chinchain is supported by two rosettes with a crown over a lion motif or alternatively a rose on a plain background.
This officers Bell top shako features a large brass universal star plate surmounted by a crown and with a smaller silver star plate superimposed upon it. To the centre of this is an oval leaf scroll with a green background and the Roman numerals XXIV. The Bell top follows all of the dimension mentioned above for the 1829 pattern shako and has a brass leather lined chin chain and rose shaped rosettes. The interior has a leather sweatband and an adjustable cloth bag. The shako has a Ball tuft in red and white held in a pierced brass leaf holder.
